The Netflix app for iOS supports AirPlay, a proprietary protocol stack developed by Apple, which allows wireless streaming between devices of multimedia content. This means that you can stream Netflix movies and shows from your iOS devices to any AirPlay-enabled devices over local Wi-Fi. And because the app also supports offline downloads, you have everything you need to enjoy Netflix offline on your Mac. Well, almost everything. You also need an app like AirServer so you can receive AirPlay streams on your Mac.
Any Netflix movie you download to your iPad can be streamed from the iPad to an Apple TV (or a Mac) using AirPlay. You can also download the free Netflix app on your Apple TV and stream content directly.

One of the features that endear Netflix to movie enthusiasts is the ability to download movies. You can save your favorite movies in your local storage and watch them whenever you want.
Before trying anything complex, it may be helpful to look closer to home. Netflix has already developed an app for other devices in the larger Apple family, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. These apps come with a download option. You can save your movies on your local storage and watch them later, even without an internet connection. Most importantly, you can then transfer these files to your Mac using QuickTime Player.
With Netflix being the biggest subscription service on the planet and more than a billion Apple devices in our hands, many are surprised to find out that there's no Netflix app for Mac. And as there is no Netflix app for Mac, many paid subscribers aren't able to download their favorite series and movies, hence are missing out on being able to watch Netflix offline.
If you've seen advertisements splashed across the internet saying that you can download Netflix app for Mac, they are a scam. Often these dodgy tech traps involve installing malware onto your Mac, which will leave the operating system looking like a scene from a horror movie.
The Windows workaround works by installing the Windows 10 operating system onto your Mac. Once you have set up Windows, then you can download Netflix app from the Microsoft Store which supports offline downloads of some content. Make sure you get the Windows system from a reputable Windows partner or reseller.
If you plan to watch Netflix while you travel to other countries, you might be restricted from having access to certain movies and shows because their availability is defined to geographical areas. To avoid such surprises, make sure you connect to Netflix while using a fast VPN, such as ClearVPN.
Alternatively, your second option is to stream Netflix content from the app on your iPhone or iPad. Since Netflix supports AirPlay, you can just direct any downloaded show to a bigger screen via Bluetooth, which can be a great hack if you want to watch Netflix on a bigger screen while travelling.
You can see that there are multiple options to download Netflix movies. Some are easy, especially if you use iPhone and iPad, and protect your connection with ClearVPN. Okay, so the solution above did not technically satisfy the need to legally watch downloaded Netflix content from your Mac. A true solution is to install Windows 10 onto your Mac using Apple Boot Camp or a virtualization software package like Parallels.
Some Apple TV channels might have limits for how many titles can be downloaded simultaneously and the number of devices you can download content on. If you reach the limit, the Apple TV app alerts you. If you want to download more titles, delete TV episodes or movies that you already downloaded from one of your (or your family's) devices.
To download movies and TV shows from Netflix, you'll need to install Windows 10 on an Intel-based MacBook and use the Windows version of the Netflix app. For Apple M1 MacBooks, there is no legal way to do this right now.
So, in short, Netflix spent a lot of time, effort, and money to block macOS users from legally downloading and accessing offline content from Netflix. It left users with morally ambiguous solutions or a Windows virtual machine if you have an Intel-based MacBook.
Unfortunately, there are no Netflix-approved methods to download movies and TV shows from Netflix with an M1 MacBook. There are, however, some morally ambiguous ways. Some folks have found success using online video downloaders, while others have made do with screen recording their iPhone or iPad using their MacBooks. Others still have turned to piracy.
